InterSec
- Network Attack Visualizations
InterSec is a web-based interactive learning environment for use in security education. It has been developed with the intention of meeting three goals:
- To provide a graphical user interface for interactive exploration of diverse security concepts and protocols. Interactive learning experiences enhance many skills such as rapid information acquisition, analytical thinking, and solution development, etc.
-
To achieve active learning by students, such as “learning by doing” and “learning from failure,” through self-assessment modules. The system will support instant self-assessment and reflection in and out of a traditional classroom environment. As an innovative learning environment, InterSec aims to engage students in security learning, increasing the confidence of students, and improving their learning.
-
To provide an open (development and utilization), platform-agnostic, extensible and broad framework for navigation, discovery and usage of probability distributions in diverse applications. The entire framework will be built using HTML5 and will be made freely available to the entire community. The user-base of the InterSec infrastructure will include both educators (integrating these graphical tools and instructional materials in their course curricula and participating in a unique virtual community led by a cadre of activists) and most importantly learners (exploring, validating and understanding the use of information security and models for practical problem solving). The InterSec infrastructure will enable representation, demonstration, interaction and visualization of a large number of security concepts, their interrelations and their applications integrated with associated class and out-of-class activities to advance learning.
